“A Rome of One’s Own: The Forgotten Women of the Roman Empire”: From the acclaimed author of “A Fatal Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum”, a “clever, bold, and refreshingly feminist” (Booklist) history of Rome that uses the lives of 21 women to upend our understanding of the ancient world.

Dr. Emma Southon holds a PhD in ancient history from the University of Birmingham. The author of Marriage, Sex and Death: the Family and the Fall of Rome and Agrippina, she cohosts a history podcast with writer Janina Matthewson called History is Sexy, and works full time as a bookseller at Waterstones Belfast.

Patricia Furnish holds a Ph.D. in modern Native American history from the University of Oklahoma, where she studied the Society of American Indians and their political activism for U.S. citizenship for all Native peoples during the Progressive Era. She also has an MFA in documentary film and an MA in Spanish language and literature. Patricia hosts two book clubs at Malaprop’s: the Notorious HBC and Crime and Politics.
