British automaker Vauxhall has introduced a new spin on to-go coffee, launching the Vauxhall Mokka Coffee-E, a concept car with a working coffee bar in the trunk (or “the boot” as the locals might call it).

The automaker, part of the Stellantis automotive group, said the vehicle responds to market data showing that 80% of Vauxhall owners are coffee drinkers, including 64% who drink coffee daily, and that 75% of electric vehicle drivers factor in coffee availability when planning out battery recharging points.

The Coffee-E battery can reach up to 252 miles between charges, with a 0-80% charge taking approximately 30 minutes on a rapid charge — “the perfect amount of time for a coffee break,” according a recent announcement from the automaker.

The Mokka Coffee-E is a one-off concept derived from Vauxhall’s existing popular Mokka Electric line. While plenty of car geek sites can take drivers under the hood of the hatchback, let’s try to unpack some of the coffee geek specs.

Vauxhall has not named the third-party manufacturers of the on-board coffee equipment, although the Mokka Coffee-E does cater to a range of brew methods.

The vehicle includes one single-group espresso machine, a dedicated grinder and one chrome single-serve pod machine. Both methods are complemented by a separate milk steamer. Built-in espresso accessories include a knock box, a WDT tool, scales and a tamper.

The grinder, knockbox and a mini refrigerator are all housed within a cabinet with two Alcantara-covered doors with hand-stitched design and stainless-steel handles. A flat table for coffee preparation pulls out from the bottom of the cabinet unit, while two large umbrellas for inclement weather are stored underneath.

Beyond the hardware, Vauxhall worked with UK specialty coffee roasting company Cafeology for a custom range of coffee blends branded to reflect the colors and ethos of the Mokka vehicle line.

“The UK is a nation of coffee drinkers, with 95 million cups drunk in a day, and Vauxhall owners are no exception to this, with 64% drinking at least one cup a day,” Vauxhall Managing Director James Taylor said in an announcement from the company today. “Whether that’s a latte, flat white, cappuccino, or espresso, the Mokka concept has all the tools necessary to craft that perfect coffee — wherever the Mokka’s new 54kWh battery might take you.”
