On 1 May, Sydney roaster Toby’s Estate opened the doors to its new flagship café in the Brisbane suburb of Newstead.

The Longland Street venue, which tested the waters by inviting industry movers and shakers to a soft launch on the evening of 30 April, is the latest in Toby’s Estate’s suite of flagship cafés across the world. It joins venues in Sydney, Singapore, the Middle East, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

“Like most Aussies, Queenslanders love quality coffee. We’ve had a strong following there for many years, so we thought it was time to give them a chance to encounter our full coffee experience delivered in the Toby’s way,” says Jody Leslie, Toby’s Estate General Manager.

Designed by Melbourne architects Russell & George and located within one of Newstead’s historic wool sheds, the Brisbane flagship blends its traditional setting with the roaster’s contemporary approach to coffee. The centrepiece is a huge circular counter, which features both an espresso and filter bar.

The highlight, according to the Toby’s Estate team, is the Freezus menu of frozen coffees. The list features standout beans from the roaster’s catalogue, most of which have earned awards over the years.

The new venue also features a training bar, from which the team will host monthly training sessions for the coffee curious who want to learn how to make the most of the roaster’s latest single origins. The two-hour sessions are free and cover a range of brew methods.

A full kitchen setup sees a menu of Australian brunch specials alongside grab-and-go options for those on the move.

Toby’s Estate Brisbane is open daily from 6.30am to 2pm.
