Starbucks Australia has appointed Braeden Lord as its new CEO, effective 25 November 2024.
Lord, currently CEO of Australian gelato brand Gelatissimo, has leadership experience from roles at major retail brands, including 7-Eleven.
Lord has had a relationship with Starbucks since 2004 and has served on the board of directors since 2015.
He succeeds Chris Garlick, who has led the company since 2014 and is now moving to Retail Zoo as CEO.
Michael Smith, Chairman of Starbucks Australia, praised Lord’s appointment, citing his long association with the company and impressive track record.
“Lord is ideally suited to build upon Chris’s exemplary legacy,” says Michael.
Under its current ownership, Starbucks Australia has expanded from 24 to 72 stores, with 45 more in development. Lord expressed his commitment to further growth, aiming to establish Starbucks as Australia’s favourite coffee brand while respecting the country’s strong independent coffee culture.
“We are currently entering Western Australia with our first store in the state at Piara Waters; Starbucks’ growth in this vibrant coffee landscape is a testament to the strength of the brand and our commitment to meeting more customers in Australia where they are,” says Lord.
Lord says there will also be opportunities for professional development for Starbucks’ partners within the rapidly expanding company.
“With our current growth trajectory, we foresee abundant opportunities for our partners. It’s an honour to lead them in this exciting phase,” says Lord.
