Luckin Coffee has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) designating the Banggai Islands Regency in Indonesia as the brand’s primary source of raw coconut material.
The islands, which will be named Luckin Coffee’s Exclusive Coconut Island, will supply the coconut milk for the brand’s flagship Coconut Latte. Since the company’s launch four years ago, more than 1.2 billion cups of the Coconut Latte have reportedly been sold.
Banggai Islands Regent Rusli Moidady said this strategic partnership will have a positive impact on the economic growth of the region.
“The signing of the MoU between the Regional Government and Luckin Coffee is a strategic step that not only opens up investment opportunities in the economic sector, but also strengthens the position of Banggai Kepulauan Regency at the national and international levels,” he says.
He adds that this collaboration also creates a mutually beneficial economic ecosystem, and builds other sectors such as tourism.
“We hope that the presence of Luckin Coffee and FreeNow Group will open up jobs for local people, create new business opportunities, and introduce the economic and cultural potential of our region,” he says.
Meanwhile, Senior Director of Luckin Coffee Supply Chain Center Shan Li says his visit to the Benggai Islands serves to strengthen relationships and create wider collaboration opportunities.
As of 31 December 2024, Luckin Coffee reportedly has 22,340 outlets worldwide, with the number of transacting customers exceeding 330 million people.
“We are confident that these numbers will continue to increase, breaking new records. High quality is our priority, and this partnership is a big step in maintaining that standard,” says Li.
