United States roaster Angelino’s Coffee has acquired the winning coffee in the Peru Cup of Excellence (CoE) auction, marking the roaster’s 12th CoE-winning coffee purchase in 2024.
The winning lot, a washed blend of Caturra, Bourbon, and Geisha varieties from El Mirador in Cajamarca, Peru, earned a Presidential Award with a score of 90.54.
Cultivated by farmer Miguel Padilla Chinguel of El Mirador farm, this coffee is said to exemplify the artistry and dedication of small-lot farming. Angelino’s purchased 330.69 pounds of the coffee at US$72.20 per pound.
“This is a truly special moment for Angelino’s Coffee,” says Founder Kirk Bedrossian. “Every Cup of Excellence coffee we bring into our collection is a testament to the farmers who dedicate their lives to growing these exceptional beans. With this Peru win, we’re not just bringing top coffees from around the world to our customers – we’re celebrating the global community of farmers and the connections that make coffee so extraordinary.”
Angelino’s has now acquired top coffees from 12 countries in 2024, including origins such as Guatemala, Ethiopia, and El Salvador.
CoE says the award recognition and the auction price, which goes to the individual farmer, often builds entire communities and regions. The goal of the 25-year-old program is to create the incentive and the transparency that allows high-quality farmers to prosper while at the same time building marketplace support.
