All Day is Saying Goodbye in Miami
All Day, the beloved 7.5-year-old coffee shop founded by Camila Ramos in Miami, announced it is closing. “We gave it our hardest for the past 7.5 years and we couldn’t have gone this far without the incredible people that have come through our doors,” the shop wrote on Instagram. “Thanks to the staff and guests who made this dream possible. Now it’s time to close this chapter.”
Cometeer Releases Results of Tasting with 5,000 Participants
Cometeer, the maker of flash-frozen single-serve coffee concentrates, released the results of its Great American Coffee Taste Test, in which 5,000 consumers were provided the same coffee. Among the findings was that “only 55 percent of Americans stated coffee roast preferences actually match up with their preferred tastes,” according to Cometeer.
Brazilian Coop Sancoffee Announces SanCup 2023 Winners
Brazilian coffee producers’ cooperative Sancoffee announced the winners of its 4th SanCup green coffee competition, including 15 lots of high-end specialty coffee. An online auction for the winning coffees is scheduled for Nov. 22.
Heather Kelley Joins The Coffee MBA as Co-CEO
Miranda Caldwell, the founder of the coffee business consultancy The Coffee MBA (see DCN’s profile here), announced this week that former Stumptown Coffee Roasters national accounts director Heather Kelley has joined the firm as Co-CEO.
CQI Launches “Conversations in Quality” Podcast
The Coffee Quality Institute, which just named Michael Sheridan incoming CEO, shared some other news this week: the launch of a new podcast series called “Conversations in Quality.” Hosted by CQI’s Josh Savidge, the series involves in-depth conversations with coffee producers. Fairtrade Agencies Seek Urgent Action on Climate Change
Fairtrade International, the Fair Trade Advocacy Office and the World Fair Trade Organisation issued a position paper ahead of the COP28 climate conference in the UAE. The organizations are jointly urging governments, businesses and world leaders to scale up efforts and take bold, immediate, meaningful and inclusive climate action “before it is too late.”
ICO Releases October Monthly Market Report
The International Coffee Organization released its monthly global coffee market report for October, finding a composite indicator coffee price of $1.5158, in terms of median value. The report notes that the world coffee market is expected to undergo another year of deficit, with an estimated shortfall of 7.3 million 60-kilo bags of green coffee in 2022/23.
Speaker Applications Open for PRF Guatemala 2024
The organizers of the Producer & Roaster Forum (PRF) are accepting speaker applications through the rest of this month. The event is returning to Guatemala on March 7-8.
SCA Launches ‘Coffee Value Assessment Patrons Program’
The Specialty Coffee Association announced it is seeking sponsors for its ongoing work in finalizing and rolling out its new “Coffee Value Assessment” tools. The SCA introduced a beta version of the Coffee Value Assessment in April.
Beverage Flavor Developer Flavorman Names New CEO
Louisville, Kentucky-based beverage flavor development company Flavorman has announced the appointment of COO Scott Weddle to the position of CEO. Weddle replaces longtime CEO Dave Dafoe.
