SCA announces newest developments in Coffee Value Assessment

The Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) has announced two new developments in its Coffee Value Assessment (CVA), including a global introductory and immersive events initiative and a Patrons program to facilitate philanthropic support for the continued growth of the initiative.

The SCA has been facilitating a number of community based CVA events for experienced cuppers and coffee professionals. These events, which take place over two to three days, are designed to inform and guide participants through the theory of the CVA and structure of new assessment forms. CVA events have already been held in New York City, Guatemala, Ireland, Spain, Peru, Japan, Mexico, and Honduras.

Details of upcoming confirmed courses include:

9 to 10 November, Belforte del Chienti, Italy, 9am to 5pm
14 to 15 November, Schaumberg, Illinois, 9am to 5pm
28 to 29 November, Waterbury Center, Vermont, 9am to 5pm

Each event features two main elements; an informational session based around the theory and development of the SCA CVA, and a practical and immersive “CVA Course for Cuppers”, designed to guide participants as they use the newly developed forms and take part in sensory and theory exercises.

The SCA is also launching an official Patrons Program for companies and organisations to engage with the CVA and to support the further refinement and development of the system.

Donating companies and organisations will receive two years of continued acknowledgement of Patron support in select CVA outputs, such as promotions on SCA’s social media channels as well as the use of an official CVA Patron badge for company marketing and communications.

CVA patrons will also receive early access and special offers for upcoming CVA events and promotions.
