Single O to host Queensland heat of Australian AeroPress Championships

Single O is hosting the Queensland instalment of the World AeroPress Championships on October 13 at its newly launched Newstead coffee bar in Queensland.

Locals will have the chance to compete for the title of state’s best and earn their spot at the 2023 Australian AeroPress Championship on 1 December, where the winner will go on to compete for the title of world champion the following day.

This year marks 20 years of Single O, and the launch of its latest outpost in Newstead marks Single O’s second café in Australia.

“Opening our humble Newstead coffee bar, which is connected to our coffee training and distribution space where we service our local café clients from, is big for us. It gives us a touchpoint for our café friends, and a chance to serve the local community, sharing the Single O spirit of having fun, honouring quality, and brewing up differently,” says Single O General Manager Mike Brabant.

The Newstead-based coffee bar will be home to Queensland’s first coffee-on-tap counter, offering a unique experience of self-serve filter coffee on tap, inviting patrons to try rotating single origin batch brews or the oat iced latte. Single O will feature its signature blend Reservoir, which delivers stone fruit and milk chocolate flavours, paired with dairy by Norco and plant milks by Alternative Dairy Company.

Inside the coffee bar, raw materials blend with recycled plastic bar tops and stools by Defy Design, embodying Single O’s eco-conscious values. The atmosphere is further elevated by a wall mural, crafted by artist Gemma O’Brien. Gemma’s artwork builds on the bespoke artwork she created for the Single O art bag series, with patterns, splashes, and psychedelic swirls.

The coffee bar opened its doors on 31 August at 16 Austin Street, Newstead, Queensland, operating Monday to Friday from 6:30am to 1:30pm and Saturday from 7:00am to 1:30pm.
