The iconic Horseshoe Cafe in Bellingham, Washington goes back to 1886. It has operated in different locations ion Bellingham for 138 years. The sign is new since I was there last time around 20 years ago.
The decor remains mainly the same for the last 60 plus years. There is a long counter with stools in front of the kitchen area. There is ab area with booths at from of the restaurant, There is a separate drinking and dining room in the back called the Ranch Room.
This famous restaurant serves western and regional foods. They are famous for their all day breakfast. They are reknown for their biscuit and gravy, hamburgers, sandwiches and fish and chips.
In this this visit, we enjoyed the giant waffle with chicken, biscuit and gravy with chicken strips, the big breakfast with the chicken fried steak and gravy and their famous hamburger with fries.
The Horseshoe Cafe no longer serve their New England Clam Chowder. I used to come in on Fridays to order an entree which included a bowl of their famous clam chowder. It was discontinued when the new owners took over 7 years ago.

In the second part of the video, I share the New Look Cafe Hamburger recipe 汉堡食谱 from my grandfather’s and my dad’s restaurant. It’s a simple recipe but it’s also an old style recipe that goes back to the 1950’s.

This is my version of Best Burger Ever. The hamburger is moist and juicy. A really delicious hamburger using the recipe from my grandfather’s restaurant, the New Look Cafe. You can customize your own burger and make it the way you want it. Any way you make it, it will be delicious.

NEW LOOK CAFE HAMBURGER RECIPE 汉堡食谱

1 lb. medium or lean ground beef (454 grams)
1/2 teaspoon or more salt
1/2 teaspoon or more black pepper
2 slices bread soaked in water
1 egg

In a large bowl, put in the ground beef. Add salt and black pepper. Soak the bread in water for a few minutes. Squeeze out the water from the bread and add into the bowl. Mix the bread into the ground beef. Add egg into the mixture and continue to mix in.

Form hamburger into patties. For each patty, I use 3 scoops of hamburger using an ice cream scoop. This is about 5 oz.You can make the patties any size you want.

Preheat a pan at medium to medium high heat. Grill the hamburger patties once or twice on each side until cooked.

I use a brioche bun but you use any kind of bun you like. The original New Look Cafe burger had a brown colored relish which I was not able to find anywhere. We put mayonaise on the upper lid of the bun. The customer could add ketchup and mustard. Our deluxe burger had lettuce, tomato and fried onions. This is the New Look Cafe version of the Best Old Style Hamburger. Enjoy!
