Global coffee chain Costa Coffee has announced its investment to send 130 of its team members to the Olympic Games 2024 in Paris.

The announcement comes as part of the brand’s partnership with the Olympic Games and aims to give its team members the opportunity to work at the sporting event, bringing Costa Coffee to the spectators and attendees.

“We are immensely proud to be the official coffee partner for the Paris 2024 Olympics Games. This opportunity not only allows us the chance to showcase our passion for coffee on a global stage, but also highlights our commitment to our team members. By investing in their growth and providing them with experiences of a lifetime, we reaffirm our commitment to fostering a culture of excellence and inclusivity,” says Jonathan Crookall, Chief People Officer at Costa Coffee.

The 130 team members will spend the summer in Paris and will have travelled from a total of six countries, including the United Kingdom, India, Poland, Malta, Cyprus, and the United Arab Emirates. To qualify for the venture, each team member had to complete an assessment process and training to secure their place.

“I’m so excited to represent Costa Coffee at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. Leading my talented barista team at the Roland Garros Stadium is a dream come true. The training has been so insightful, helping us master ‘Gold Standard’ drinks and build a supportive team. Plus, I can’t wait to watch Sport Climbing – it’s so inspiring as a fellow climber,” says Costa Coffee Marketing Graduate Katie Cotton.

According to the brand, baristas and team managers were picked based on their coffee knowledge and skills, while Costa’s Field Service Engineers were chosen for their technical capabilities and ability to work well as part of a team. All members were also required to complete training and upskilling programs to prepare for the Games.

“I applied to work at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games because it’s a prestigious and unifying event that aligns with Costa Coffee’s values. This initiative offers a unique chance to showcase our brand globally. I am excited about the dynamic atmosphere, the opportunity to witness athletic dedication, and the cultural exchange that comes with working alongside diverse teams. The extensive training I received has enhanced my technical, organisational, and communication skills, preparing me to contribute effectively and grow professionally, while creating memorable experiences for our customers,” says Colin Goodchild, Costa Field Service Engineer at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

As part of its partnership, Costa Coffee has provided six kiosks with over 110 automatic Pacto machines which are stationed throughout different venues. On the sustainability front, it is also offering Olympic-themed reusable cups at the competition sites.

The Costa Coffee baristas will also be hosting a coffee masterclass for athletes and spectators. According to the chain, the aim of the masterclass is to give competitors and attendees an opportunity to immerse themselves in a hands-on coffee culture experience.
