IFC and Vietnamese Bank Launch $150 Million Fund to Support Exports
The Vietnam Prosperity Joint-Stock Commercial Bank (VPBank) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) are providing US$150 million in supply chain financing for coffee exporting companies in Vietnam. Designed to support small- and medium-sized organizations, the fund marks the first supply chain co-financing program between IFC and a local commercial bank in Vietnam. Part of the World Bank Group, the IFC is focused on private sector development in developing countries. Vietnam is the world’s largest producer of robusta coffee.
Denim Coffee Serves President Joe Biden a Strawberry Smoothie
Pennsylvania-based roaster and retailer Denim Coffee noted a recent visit from two high-profile visitors to its Harrisburg cafe: Gov. Josh Shapiro and United States President Joe Biden. According to the coffee purveyor’s LinkedIn, Shapiro ordered an iced latte and Biden ordered a strawberry smoothie.
Cup Pro Launches in Australia
A new precision pitcher called the Cup Pro recently launched in Australia, offering insulation, volume markings and two sizes for accommodating popular drink sizes. The product is designed to work in tandem with customers’ reusable cups at cafes.
Green Mountain Founder Bob Stiller Writes Book on Leadership
Bob Stiller, who founded Green Mountain Coffee Company in 1981, has written a new book on business leadership called Better & Better: Creating a Culture of Purpose, Excellence, and Transformative Human Engagement. The book is scheduled for a Sept. 3 release. JAB Holding Company acquired Keurig-maker Green Mountain Coffee for $13.9 billion in 2015.
Eater Explores the ‘South Korean Coffee Culture Wave’ Hitting Los Angeles
A long read in Eater this week explored the emergence of coffee shops in Los Angeles featuring Korean menu items and decor. Journalist Cathy Park writes, “The menus are only one element of what makes Los Angeles’s Seoul-influenced cafes special. These operators embrace the essence of South Korean cafe culture, where, often, nothing seems off limits — think salt ponds, giant croissants, and poop emoji decor — and where casual communal enjoyment of the drinks and space is emphasized on social media.”
Coffee Part of Walgreens’ Nice! For You Brand Launch
United States-based pharmacy giant Walgreen’s launched a new private-label sub brand called Nice! For You, with products meeting a remarkably low bar of having “no artificial flavors, artificial sweeteners, synthetic dyes or high-fructose corn syrup.” Coffee is among the new Nice! For You Products. The company originally launched the Nice! private-label brand in 2011.
Novo Coffee Opens Second Bar Inside Denver International Airport
Denver-based roaster and retailer Novo Coffee has opened its second coffee bar at the Denver International Airport (DEN), in concourse B. The new kiosk includes original art from Pat Milberry, Novo’s full retail coffee menu and a selection of fresh baked goods and t0-go items.
Nespresso Opens Concept Store at Texas Mall
Swiss coffee giant Nespresso last week opened what it described as a new concept store in Austin, Texas, targeting the Gen Z market with “immersive” coffee experiences. Nespresso maintains more than 30 storefronts in the U.S. The new Austin shop opened at The Domain shopping mall.
Caffe Vita Launches ‘Cold Shot’ Through Bkon Partnership
Seattle-based Caffe Vita recently launched the Vita Cold Shot, a cold-espresso-like concentrate made in collaboration with the Bkon company. Vita’s cold shot uses the company’s flagship Caffe Del Sol Blend.
German Airline Sundair and Kimbo Coffee Introduce New In-Flight Drink
German airline Sundair and Italian coffee brand Kimbo have partnered for a new in-flight instant coffee drink. The solution involved a collaboration between London-based Kimbo UK and manufacturing partner BruPac.
