Snapchill Issues Voluntary Recall For 250+ Canned Coffees

Snapchill is one of the driving forces behind canned, ready-to-drink cold beverage lines in specialty coffee. The Green Bay, Wisconsin brand has worked with major specialty coffee roasters like Intelligentsia, George Howell, Madcap, and Dayglow to produce a canned cold coffee for each brand using a proprietary method.

Now, Snapchill is issuing a voluntary recall of all their canned coffee products due to concerns that they may contain botulinum toxin that could lead to botulism.

Per the press release, Snapchill sate their “current process could lead to the growth and production of the deadly toxin,” though as of press time there have been no reported instances of illness and no can of Snapchill coffee has been found to contain botulin toxin. The recall affects over 250 different lines of RTD coffee produced by Snapchill and distributed nationwide by their roasting partners.

The issue first came to light when the US Food and Drunk Administration alerted the brand that “the low acid canned foods process” they use to make their cold coffee “was not filed with FDA, as is required by regulation.”

When reached for comment, Snapchill tells Sprudge: “At Snapchill, the safety and satisfaction of our customers are our highest priorities, and we are working swiftly to resolve the issue. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience or concern this recall may cause. We are working with the FDA on solutions to restart production within standards.”

Snapchill will now undergo a months-long audit with the FDA to determine the safety of their pasteurization process as well as determine an interim solution to allow the company to continue production.

In the mean time, Snapchill is telling consumers they should “either destroy the products or return the product to Snapchill or the place of purchase for a refund.” Full refunds will be given “with appropriate proof of purchase including a picture of the product(s) before being destroyed.” They have also set up an email to answer any consumer questions at Compliance@Snapchill.com.

More information on the voluntary recall and a full list of recalled items can be found via the Snapchill recall notice.
