Commonplace Coffee Launching Mixtape Blend to Benefit Pittsburgh Community Radio

Pittsburgh-based specialty coffee roaster Commonplace Coffee is launching a new blend called Mixtape, with a portion of retail and wholesale sales benefitting Pittsburgh Community Broadcasting and 91.3 WYEP for a full year. The blend, which was created in collaboration with WYEP DJs, includes a honey-process coffee from Colombia and a washed-process coffee from Rwanda. It drops on July 2.

LA’s Angelino’s Coffee Scores Nicaragua Cup of Excellence Lots #1 and #4

Los Angeles-based roaster Angelino’s Coffee recently secured the top-scoring lot at the Nicaragua Cup of Excellence green coffee auction for a whopping $109 per pound. The company also put in a top bid for the #4 lot in the prestigious auction.

Taiwan Foreign Minister Urges Support for Guatemala

Taiwan News reported that Taiwan Minister of Foreign Affairs Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) urged the business community to support coffee exports from Guatemala. According to numerous published reports, the Chinese government halted shipments of Guatemalan green coffee in May in response to the diplomatic relationship between Guatemala and Taiwan.

Brooklyn Cafe Owner Takes Issue with Oddly Familiar T-Shirt from National Retailer

The owner of Brooklyn, New York, cafe Caffe De Martini, has accused apparel brand PacSun of profiting off the shop’s lovely, European-style image, according to a New York Post report.

‘Where Are They Now?’ with Ascension Coffee Founder Russell Hayward

The founder of the Dallas-area coffee roaster and retailer Ascension Coffee is now back in his home country of Australia, leading clinical trials of a cancer treatment therapies. Russell Hayward, who sold the Ascension business in 2020, is now the CEO of Etira Life, a leader in the field of tumor heterogeneity.

Torani Names Tai Doong President

The nearly century-old flavoring and syrups company Torani has added to its leadership team with the appointment of Tai Doong in the new position of president. The California-based company said it posted more than $500 million revenue last year.

Illy Strikes Cold Brew Supply Deal with United Airlines

Ready-to-drink cold brew from Italian coffee Illy will now be available on “most” United Airlines United States flights spanning more than 300 miles. The drinks will be complementary in premium seating and will be available for sale in economy seating.

Automatic commercial coffee machine maker Eversys has completed an approximately 75,000 square foot expansion of its primary production and storage facility in Sierre.

Franke Coffee Systems America Names Chad Bowman VP of Sales

Commercial coffee equipment provider Franke Coffee Systems Americas, the Tennessee-based North American division of Swiss multinational Franke Group, has named Chad Bowman vice president of sales. According to Franke, Bowman will lead sales strategies for the convenience store channel.

Cropster Refreshes Brand

Coffee industry software and solutions provider Cropster unveiled a brand refresh at the World of Coffee event in Copenhagen. The company said the new visual identity attempts to express a “friendly tone of voice, a passion for coffee, and the work we do.”
