Royal Coffee Earns Regenerative Organic Certified Stamp

California-based green coffee trading company Royal Coffee Inc. announced it has earned the Regenerative Organic Certified (ROC) seal from the Regenerative Organic Alliance. In its announcement, the company offered some tips for roasters who may be interested in the Regenerative Organic mark. The first ever Regenerative Organic-certified coffees reached the United States market in 2022, courtesy of importers Sustainable Harvest and Coffee Unified.

Report: China Halts Guatemalan Coffee Shipments

The president of Guatemala told numerous media outlets that China had suspended shipments of coffee and other exported goods from the Central American country, attributing the maneuver to Guatemala’s diplomatic relationship with Taiwan.

SCA Coffee Value Assessment Added to Two Digital Platforms

The Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) announced that its Coffee Value Assessment (CVA) tools are now available for use on two third-party digital platforms: the Tastify Web App and iOS/Android application, and Catador CVA by a company called Softlogic.

Mexico Cup of Excellence Includes Eight 90+ Winners

The annual Mexico Cup of Excellence green coffee competition saw a record eight farmers winning the “presidential award,” given for coffees that score 90+ points. The Mexico CoE auction takes place July 2.

Digital Coffee Future Asks Who’s Responsible for EUDR Compliance

A piece published by the firm Digital Coffee Future this week explored ramifications of the forthcoming EU deforestation-free regulations. The piece explores questions such as: “Should government agencies support producers with data collection? Must buyers take the lead instead? Who is responsible for verifying the information provided to the EU?”

Cuvee Coffee Closing Flagship Cafe in Austin

Austin, Texas-based roasting company Cuvée Coffee is closing its nearly 10-year-old flagship coffee shop in East Austin. On Instagram, the company attributed the decision to rising rent. At the same time, the company is opening a new bar inside a high rise at 48 E. Ave in the downtown Rainey district.

Canadian Roaster Java Blend and Union Group Reach Deal

A Union group withdrew a labor complaint against Halifax, Nova Scotia-based roasting company Java Blend after the two parties reached a settlement agreement, according to a CBC report.

A&W to Expand Pret a Manger Locations Throughout Canada

Coffee and sandwich chain Pret a Manger and the Canadian business of fast food chain A&W signed a long-term development plan that is expected to bring more Pret locations to Canada. The agreement followed a pilot location in downtown Toronto.

Costa Coffee and Delaware North to Open Briggo-Like Kiosks

Coca-Cola-owned coffee giant Costa Coffee and foodservice company Delaware North announced the forthcoming launch of a new self-serve coffee kiosk concept called Costa Coffee Creations at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Austin, Texas. Costa acquired a coffee kiosk company called Briggo in 2020. Briggo first opened kiosks inside Austin’s airport in 2018.

Victoria Arduino Opens Bangkok Showroom

Italian commercial coffee equipment maker Victoria Arduino is continuing a string of showroom openings with a new outpost in Bangkok, Thailand, courtesy of a partnership with Aroma Group. The brand last week announced the opening of a Chicago showroom.
