Luckin Coffee Opens Large Green Coffee Mill in China

Chinese coffee giant Luckin Coffee recently inaugurated its first green coffee processing plant, in the Yunnan Province. According to an announcement to investors, the new plant can process up to 5,000 tons of green coffee per year. Within the past six months, multinational coffee trader Sucafina opened a wet mill of its own in Yunnan, and Starbucks opened a $220 million coffee production center outside Shanghai.  

AP Explores How EUDR Might Affect Trade in Key Countries

An Associated Press story titled How EU deforestation laws are reordering the world of coffee” made the rounds this week, exploring how the new laws may affect export markets in key coffee-producing countries such as Vietnam, Brazil, Ethiopia and Peru. 

Cafe Imports Brings Legendary Coffee Exchange to SCA Expo

Minneapolis-based coffee trading company Cafe Imports its reprising its Legendary Coffee Exchange, a free coffee swapping program for coffee roasters to meet and share thoughts. Instructions for the exchange, which takes place at the upcoming SCA Expo in Chicago, are available here

Rival Bros Names New SVP of Coffee

Philadelphia-based Rival Bros Coffee has named Chris Miller senior vice president (SVP) of coffee. Prior to joining Rival Bros, Miller held numerous roles, including director of coffee, with La Colombe, which was acquired by Chobani for $900 million last December. 

Farmer Brothers Moving Into New HQ in Fort Worth

Full-service B2B coffee company Farmer Brothers has signed a 54-month lease on a new corporate headquarters in Fort Worth, Texas. The company recently sold its former headquarters, opened in nearby Northlake in 2017, to Treehouse Foods as part of a $100 million deal

Peet’s and Caribou Finalize $260 Million Asset Acquisition Deal

Minnesota-born Caribou Coffee and Peet’s Coffee have finalized a $260 million deal that gives Peet’s ownership of Caribou’s roasting operations, as well as its office and foodservice contracts. The deal was first announced in January. 

Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf Unveils New Drive-Through Concept in CA

The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf has unveiled a new store model focused on app ordering and drive-through service. The chain’s first drive-through location opened this week at a strip shopping center in Rialto, California. 

Root Capital Names New Board Chairs

Development-focused agricultural lending firm Root Capital named Scott Amero and Sophie Romana as the next co-chairs of its board of directors. Former board chair Ana Zacapa has completed her term and will continue to serve on the board. 

India’s Subko Coffee Closes $10 Million Funding Round

Mumbai, India-based specialty coffee and bakery chain Subko Coffee secured a US$10 million investment from a number of individual investors, including actors and tech entrepreneurs. 

Primera Rolls Out AP380 Label Applicator

Minnesota-based label equipment company Primera Technology has introduced the AP380 label applicator, designed for fast and effective label application on round or cylindrical containers. Priced at $1,595, the machine can apply up to 1,500 labels per hour, according to the company.
