Texas-based full-service coffee roasting and wholesale company Farmer Brothers has named Matthew Swenson vice president of coffee operations.
The appointment follows the recent ascension of John Moore as president and CEO. Moore was tapped to lead Farmer Brothers’ coffee operation last July before taking over as interim CEO shortly thereafter.
Swenson joins the company after seven years working remotely in a director of coffee position for Swiss food giant Nestlé. He was previously the director of coffee for Austin, Texas, based Chameleon Organic Coffee (formerly Chameleon Cold Brew), which was acquired by Nestlé in 2017 before being sold again in 2022.
According to a recent announcement from Farmer Brothers, based outside of Dallas, Swenson will manage numerous tasks previously led by Moore, including green coffee procurement, coffee research and development, roasting and manufacturing, and sustainability initiatives.
A current board member of the Coffee Quality Institute and certified arabica Q grader, Swenson joins Farmer Brothers in a transitional period following the sale of certain warehousing and fulfillment assets to TreeHouse for $100 million last June.
“Matt is highly regarded across the coffee industry for his vast knowledge and expertise. He also has a long track record of success in developing systems and growing revenue for organizations throughout the coffee and beverage sector,” Moore said in a company announcement last week. “We are incredibly excited to have him join our leadership team at this pivotal moment as Farmer Brothers focuses solely on our direct store delivery (DSD) business.”
