Pittsburgh-based small business crowdfunding broker Honeycomb Credit is offering a no-strings-attached $2,000 grant for one United States coffee shop, coffee roaster or bakery business.
Open to U.S. small businesses of any ownership structure — including mobile operations and popup business, as well as traditional coffee shops, roasteries or bakeries — the grant application is open until March 31. A recipient will be selected on April 2.
“Running a coffee shop or bakery is about creating a welcoming space where people can gather, chat, and treat themselves,” Honeycomb said in an announcement of the new grant. “Our $2,000 grant is our way of recognizing the impact you’re making in your community and providing a little extra support to keep that momentum going.”
Honeycomb Credit is one of dozens of regulation crowdfunding firms that emerged over the past decade following a provision of the 2012 JOBS Act that allows for small businesses to solicit small investments from the public.
Founded by a former banker and aspiring juice business owner named George Cook in 2017, Honeycomb has since helped lead funding campaigns for more than 200 businesses in more than 30 U.S. states, according to the company’s website. The firm specializes in campaigns for food- and drink-related small businesses such as cafes, distilleries, breweries and restaurants.
In its grant announcement, the firm urges applicants to showcase innovation or creativity in their business operations.
“Preference may be given to bakeries and coffee shops that demonstrate a commitment to community engagement, social responsibility, or sustainability efforts,” the firm wrote. “Businesses with initiatives that positively impact their local communities or support sustainable practices may be prioritized.”
